In Our Homes

We talk about the hard things.

In our groups we talk about mental health, loneliness, relationships, grief, and suicide. We do not believe important subjects should be avoided simply because they are difficult.
At the Healing Table, residents write and share about what they are carrying, and they learn to listen to one another. Many of our staff have been through hard times themselves, and they know how much it helps when someone asks how you are really doing.

Warning Signs

Signs that someone may be struggling.

Most people who are thinking about suicide show some kind of sign beforehand. The signs are easy to miss, especially when they are new or seem small. If you notice a few of them in someone you care about, trust what you are seeing and check in.
Call or Text 988 →How to Help
•Talking about wanting to die, or about being a burden to others
•Looking for ways to end their life
•Saying they feel hopeless or have no reason to live
•Pulling away from friends, family, and things they used to enjoy
•Drinking or using drugs more than usual
•Sleeping much more or much less
•Giving away belongings or saying goodbye
•Sudden calm after a long period of feeling low
How to Help

What you can do for someone you are worried about.

You do not need special training to help. These five steps come from the 988 Lifeline and suicide prevention groups across the country.
1
Ask
Ask them directly, “Are you thinking about suicide?” Asking will not put the idea in their head.
2
Be there
Listen without judging. Let them talk, and take what they say seriously.
3
Keep them safe
Ask whether they have a plan, and help put distance between them and anything they could use to hurt themselves.
4
Help them connect
Call or text 988 together, or help them reach a doctor, counselor, or someone they trust.
5
Follow up
Check in over the next days and weeks. A short call or text can make a real difference.
